Teen Experience FAQ
Eligibility
Who can apply to the Teen Writing Experience?
Anyone between the ages of 14-18 may apply, regardless of their background or level of experience.
I don't live in the city or the province. Can I still apply?
Yes. We receive applications from all over. Although some preference is given to Saskatchewan residents, other applicants will be considered if space allows.
I am slightly younger/older than the stated age range. May I still apply?
This program is designed for writers between the ages of 14-18. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept younger writers into the program. Those over the age of 18 are invited to apply to our adult programs.
I haven't written a lot. Should I still apply?
Yes. Although we ask that applicants submit a four-page writing sample, we do not require any experience or background in creative writing. Your writing sample may consist of an excerpt from a short story or a larger work, some poems, anything creative. The writing sample, along with the statement of intent, should reflect your creativity and your interest.
Do you have any programs for 9-12 year olds?
No. At the present time, Sage Hill does not offer any programming for this age group. You may want to check with your local library to see if any programs are offered.

Selection Process
How are applicants selected for the program?

I have been waitlisted. What next?
You will be contacted by the executive director if a spot opens up in the program.
Workshop Environment
What will we be doing every day?
You will meet at the library in the morning when it opens, and work until 4.30 pm each day. While your instructor will determine the specific schedule, you can expect to spend time writing, reading and talking about writing. The instructor will give you writing exercises. He or she may also organize field trips. As well, another writer will visit the class to give a talk and answer your questions about becoming a professional writer.
Will someone read my work?
The instructor will read your work and provide you with feedback. In the past, our instructors have been very good about reading everything written during the course and making helpful comments.
How much time will I have to write?
Part of each day is set aside for writing. The teen writing experience is designed to spark your imagination and help you write.
Financial
