Executive-Director of the Sage Hill Writing Experience

 

Lead Saskatchewan’s Acclaimed National Writing Program as the Program and Financial Manager

The Sage Hill Writing Experience is a renowned summer residential writing program that draws students from across Canada and abroad, offering a unique environment and learning opportunity for writers at varying stages of development.

Spring and summer programs staffed by outstanding instructors at St. Micheal’s Retreat Centre in Lumsden, in the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley, provide writers with outstanding professional development opportunities at several levels in fiction, poetry and other creative writing disciplines. It also offers workshops for teens throughout the province.

Term: One year, beginning in late March or early April, with the likelihood of renewal; 20 hours per week with scheduled hours in Saskatoon office plus flexible hours on-site during the programs. Salary negotiable; benefits included.

Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Executive, the Executive-Director will:

  • Manage all aspects of the Sage Hill program
  • Handle budgeting and day-to-day financial management
  • Write and oversee grant applications
  • Supervise participant selection process
  • Manage programs on-site
  • Plan and carry out promotion campaigns to target audiences
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and provide regular reports
  • Supervise office staff, volunteers and contractors

Requirements:

  • Administrative experience including financial management, budgeting, handling correspondence, and ‘office suite’ computer skills
  • Proven skills in: grant writing and reporting; program delivery; promotion; contracting and strategic planning
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience supervising staff and contract employees
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Highly organized with proven ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines

Assets:

  • Administrative experience in the non-profit sector or with an arts or cultural organization
  • fund-raising experience
  • knowledge of Canadian literature and Canadian writing scene
