Moose Jaw Teen Writing Program 2017
The Saskatchewan Festival of Words has generously offered to find billets (places to stay, provided by volunteer host families) for teens travelling to Moose Jaw.
Please apply as soon as possible if you require a billet.
Instructor: Katherine Lawrence
Katherine Lawrence is the author of three books of poetry, Never Mind (Turnstone Press: 2016), Lying to Our Mothers (Coteau Books: 2006), and Ring Finger, Left Hand (Coteau Books: 2001). She is also the author of two chapbooks: Split-ends (Jackpine Press: 2005) and Start with the Answer (gritlit Press: 2009). A young adult novel-in-verse, titled Stay, will be published in the spring of 2017 by Coteau Books.
Among other awards, she has won Best First Book, Saskatchewan Book Awards, the City of Regina Writing Award, the John V. Hicks Long Manuscript Award, and Lying to Our Mothers was a finalist for a Saskatchewan Book Award. Her poems have been anthologized in The Best Canadian Poetry in English, 2010 and in Nelson English Grade 10 Academic Edition and Elements of English 12 by Harcourt Canada.
Katherine is an accomplished speaker, presenter, and workshop facilitator whose style is respectful and engaging. She lives in Saskatoon and is originally from Hamilton.
Guest Author: Alice Kuipers
Bestselling, award winning author Alice Kuipers has published four award-winning YA novels internationally, most recently, The Death of Us, a Canadian Library Association shortlisted title. Her two picture books feature twins Violet and Victor and she has an upcoming chapter books series with Chronicle Press. Me (and) Me, her fifth YA novel, is described by Bif Naked as mesmerising.
