The Story of Sage Hill – A 2016 venue change for Sage Hill Writing Experience
Sage Hill Writing Experience’s 2016 programs were scheduled to be held at Cedar Lodge on Blackstrap Lake. In April, Sage Hill received some pretty surprising news. The founder and administrator of Cedar Lodge, Suzanne Olaski, passed away unexpectedly. Our thoughts are with everyone at Cedar Lodge as they grieve this major loss. Cedar Lodge is currently in a state of suspension due to Suzanne’s sudden passing.
Sage Hill was tasked to find a new home for the 2016 programs. We have made arrangements to move the 2016 programs to Sage Hill’s old stomping grounds at St. Michael’s Retreat Centre near Lumsden, Saskatchewan. Sage Hill Writing programs were held at St. Michael’s for nearly 20 years from the mid-nineties until just a few years ago. St Michael’s is a beautiful location in the Qu’Appelle Valley and has 220 private acres featuring a labyrinth, sun circle and many walking trails.
In 2014, St. Michael’s underwent some changes as the friars went to a different monastery and management of the centre shifted. At that time, it was unclear whether Sage Hill would be able to hold programs at St. Michael’s as the centre was being considered for a number of different uses. A decision was made to move Sage Hill’s 2015 programs to Cedar Lodge, which was a great venue last year. Since that time, St. Michael’s has again become available for public use.
The moral of the story is – Sage Hill Writing is back at St. Michael’s!
